You may spend some peaceful days in the natural centre of the Bihar Region, if you visit the spa of Berettyóújfalu.

Inside the spa, there are thermal pools for those who like lounging around, a swimming pool for those who like to do sport and a small pool for the children. The water contains hydrogen-carbonic thus it is recommended for those who suffer from rheumatism or some kind of motor disease. Besides the healing water there are some kinds of therapeutic treatments available.

History

In the 14C there were about seventeen small villages on this land. In the 17C after the first Hungarian uprising against the Habsburgs, the village got some privileges from István Bocskai. Nevertheless, it started to develop only in the 19C, after the railway was laid down and the regularizations of the rivers. It became an important trade and administrative centre of this land. After some changes in public services in the 20C, the town has lost its administrational importance, but still retained an important centre. New factories and the spa were built during this century.

Place of interest


After refreshing your self in the spa, it is worth to take a walk in the town, because there are some interesting sights around.


If you would like to see some exhibitions, you should visit the Town Gallery, where you can see some works of the artists of Bihar Region, or the historical displays in the Bihar Museum.


The old ruins of a former tower, known as Herpály are standing outside the town. It is worth to take a walk there and visit the Csonkatorony.


If you like beaches, there are some near Berettyóújfalu. One of the most interesting choices is to go to Bakonszeg, only a few km away from here. There is a small lake known as Remete-tó (Lake Recluse).
