You may refresh your self in a spa of high standard if you visit Tiszaújváros. The spa here is one of the most imposing and modern spas in Hungary. Inside the complex there are different kinds of pools which includes indoor and outdoor thermal pools, an aqua park, swimming pool and small pool for the children.

The water contains sodium-chloride and hydrogen-carbonic thus it is mostly recommended for those who have some kind of combustion or joint problems.

History

The name of the oldest settlement here was Tiszaszederkény. This settlement was united with the quickly developing Tiszaújváros. The first source which mentioned the name of Tiszaszederkény dates back to the 13C. It became deserted when the Tatar troops invaded Hungary. After a few centuries it became deserted again during Turkish times. The new settlers were the hajdú people. “Hajdú-“means some soldiers, who were before herdsman. In the 16C they organized them self into some kind of military groups. In the 17C István Bocskai availed himself of their services in the first Hungarian uprising against the Hapsburgs in 1604. After according to his promises, he gave land and noble rights to these soldiers.


Due to its location and its geographical conditions, it became an important industrial center during the 19-20C. The industrial developing got into extremity during the communist era. In 1970 the town got the name from Lenin. After the democratically changes in 1989 it became Tiszaújváros.

Place of interest


After refreshing your self in the spa you should take a walk in the town. Until the democratically changes in Hungary there were no churches in Tiszaújváros. After, three new churches were built. The first temple was the catholic church. It was built in 1993 and designed by Attila Rátkai and Rátkainé Róza Kiss. The Calvinist church was built in 1994 by the designs of Kálmán Hoór. The youngest church is the Greek catholic church, which was built in 1996 and designed by József Nagy.


If you like to know more about Tiszaújváros you should visit the Local History Museum for its interesting displays. If you are more interested fine arts you should go to Ártéri Galéria or to the Town Gallery.


The town is getting more beautiful every year. New park has been opened, new monuments were made. It is worth to take a walk in the center of the town to see these changes. For example you should see the statue on the square in front of the Town Hall. Its title is “The tree of life”. It is a work of Ádám Farkas. Not far from here is the “Dancing couple” made by Judit Englert. If you walk around the town you will see lots of statues about famous Hungarian people like the statue of Stephan I or Zsuzsa Lórántffy.


Besides these there are also some sport grounds around, cinemas and other kinds of interesting programs to choose from.
